My name is Jennifer S. Lange. I live and work in northern Germany, where I was given birth to in the 80s. Neither was I born with a pencil in my hand, nor did I belong to those kids which paint on everything that did not keep out of arm-length. I only developed a serious interest in drawing and painting in the time around my finals at school, due to great teachers and my fascination for art history.
Aided by my time at the university, I haven't rested a day in striving to improve my skills. My fascination for stories, myths, and fairy-tales, is my main drive, and the wish to capture those fantastic worlds in my pictures. My leisure time I use to spark new inspiration with books of fantasy or science fiction, through history and architecture, or with board-, computer- and roleplaying-games, action movies and documentations.
Meanwhile, I don't only do my personal artwork, but also more and more commissions. Thankfully, being a fantasy artist I mainly work with people who share my sense of the fantastic and whose creatures, worlds and works to illustrate is a pleasure to me.

For a long time, I preferred to work with traditional media, but have finally found my favourite in digital art. Almost always, I base my digital paintings on a sketch with a traditional medium, and even today I gladly paint with charcoal, watercolours or acrylics for relaxation.
I love fantastic and fairytale motifs, figures, landscapes, and creatures, whose essence and flair I try to capture in my paintings. No less, I am exited by science fiction and horror, yet I also like smaller genres like cyber- and steampunk. I like to grant an insight into the stories behind the motifs, be they of my own doing or the inspiration of my commissioners.
I am happy to take on commissions. I like to do artwork for games: cardgames as well as board-, computer-, and roleplaying-games. I design book covers and paint interior art. Also, I try to keep room for private commissions, I'm always happy to take those on.
Beyond this site, I also publish my works in other web-galleries, join contests or put up my work for discussion in art forums. Usually, I will use the name Ranarh (I can only guarantee this for the mentioned galleries and forums).
Plenty of my artwork can be seen at deviantArt: ranarh.deviantART.com
Interested may find contest submissions and discussion about my paintings in the forums at conceptArt.org and ImagineFX.com
Tutorials have always been a good help for me and still are. I am trying to give some of that help to others and write tutorials myself from time to time.
The Sorry Tutorial shows the design of a portrait where the focus doesn't lie in realism but in the mood. I explain this on the example of my painting "Sorry" (you can also see this on deviantArt).:
